The Bali Tiger

Scientific Name - Panthera Tigris Balica

The Bali tiger lived only on the island of Bali and has been extinct since the late 1930's or early 1940's.  We do know that males weighed between 198 and 221 pounds, while females weighed between 143 and 176 pounds.  Little is known about this cat since it has been extinct for over 60 years but we do know that it measured between 6 and 7 feet in length and was the smallest of the 8 tiger species.

The Caspian Tiger

Scientific Name - Panthera Tigris Virgata

The Caspian tiger inhabitated Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Mongolia and the central Asiatic area of Russia.  Males weighed between 374 and 529 pounds, while females weighed much less at between 187 and 298 pounds.  The average length of this cat was between 7 and 8 feet.  Unfortunately, no other data is available as this cat has been extinct since the 1950's.

The Javan Tiger

Scientific Name - Panthera Tigris Sondaica

The Javan tiger was very similar to the Bali tiger in that it inhabited only one area, for this cat is was the island of Java.  The males of this species weighed between 221 and 311 pounds, with the females weighing between 165 and 254 pounds.  Unfortunately, like the other two cats the data available is extremely limited.  This cat has been extinct since the late 1970's or early 1980's.
