Scientific Name - Felis Bieti

This cat weighs only 12 pounds and is an extremely rare cat.  So much so that there are very few pictures available.  The Chinese Desert Cat is a well-proportioned domestic-sized cat.  Like the sand cat, the soles of its feet are covered with thick mats of fur to protect it from the hot sands.  Its coat is sandy brown with distinctive darker brown spots set in wide-spaced vertical rows.  Its undersides are very pale.

The Chinese Desert Cat may be found in the deserts, steppes, scrub and mountains of Mongolia and China, where it hunts at night, from the ground, and seeks small rodents and reptiles.

The Chinese Desert Cats breed between January and Mark, with litters most often born in May.  Litters range from 2 - 4 young, and the offspring reach independence at 7 - 8 months.

Longevity is not known and there are no Chinese Desert Cats in captivity.

The Chinese Desert Cat is fully protected in China.
